Where are the People Who Care?

"For I have no one like him, who will be genuinely concerned for your welfare. For they all seek their own interest, not those of Jesus Christ." Philippians 2:20-21

Paul wanted to send one of the Christians in his group to the Philippian Church. Unfortunately, he did not feel like a lot of the Christians would really care about their well being. They were all too focused on their own interest. How terrible!

The same is true today. Sad, but true. Everyone has their own "cause." Against abortion, against animal cruelty, against child labor, etc., and they are all real and true causes.

Living for a cause means completely separating yourself from things that support the cruel act you're fighting. You give those things up, lest you be called the hypocrite. But when a friend tells us about another cause, we rarely welcome the idea.  It might mean living without something we've grown accustomed to, and we wouldn't want that.

We are no different. The church has really split up over their individual "causes." The truth is, we are all fighting for a cause, and we are struggling with another. Don't judge. God is at work in all of us.

"I hope in the Lord Jesus to send Timothy to you soon, so that I too may be cheered by news of you." Philippians 2:19

Paul knew there were a lot of Christians he didn't want to send. But he knew who he would send: Timothy,  because he genuinely cared about the welfare of others.

We want to be like Timothy, guys. We want to be the one who cares. So instead of letting these things divide us, lets learn from each other, allow God to work in our hearts, and make a difference as people who care.
