Vows to the Most High

"Perform your vows to the Most High." Psalm 50:14b

Jesus is often referred to as The Bridegroom, and the church is referred to as the Bride of Christ.

The proposal: Jesus proposed to us when He sacrificed Himself for us on the cross. When we are saved, we are saying, "Yes!" to Him.

And there is our first vow to God.

We are vowing to love, honor, and cherish God forever. We are vowing to stand before everyone and proclaim our love for Him. We are vowing to spend the rest of forever with Him.

These vows should not be taken lightly! We meant these vows when we said them. Then the "wedding planning" began. We see how much preparation, detail, resources, and personal time go into planning a wedding to the Most High. We know we will need to change some of our rotten habits for The Bridegroom.

This is enough to make some believers completely turn away from The Bridegroom. They never perform their vows to God.

But what about you?

We have each made the same vow to God. And we all know we love Him. A man and a woman in love don't let the challenges of planning a wedding stop them. They press forward! And so it should be with our Heavenly Bridegroom!

Press forward! Perform your vows!

(What can I say? Wedding analogies are a good reflection of us and God. And they are all just so apparent to me right now :D )
