The Journey to God

"Now Moses used to take the tent and pitch it outside the camp, far off from the camp, and he called it the tent of meeting. And everyone who sought the Lord would go out to the tent of meeting, which was outside the camp." Exodus 33:7

Moses would set up the tent of meeting outside the camp. Why? Why not just set it up in the middle of camp? Safer, smarter, more convenient. Seems like a no brainer.

It would have been easy to set it up in camp. Too easy.

In order for them to spend time with God, they had to take time, walk to a specific place, and focus on God. The journey was all about God. If the tent of meeting was in the thick of the camp, there would be distractions. People, chores, and concerns clamoring for attention. Eventually the journey to God would become a few halfhearted minutes, instead of time devoted to God.

It's important for us to go outside the camp. To leave the presence of the world, and enter the presence of God. Church, a park, or even just some quiet time in your cozy chair. The point is we need specific time with God. We all need places we can go, physically or spiritually, where we are alone with God and far, far away from everything else.

We need to steal away and journey to God everyday.
