But when they saw Him walking on the sea, they supposed it was a ghost, and cried out; for they all saw Him and were troubled. And immediately He talked to them and said to them, "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." Then He went up into the boat to them...Mark 6:49-51
The disciples took one look at Jesus walking across the water and decided that he was a ghost and they cried out in fear. Jesus immediately responded with words of encouragement. "Be of good cheer! (Cheer simply means - courage, or boldness.) "Be of good courage! It is I, do not be afraid." Sometimes, we like the disciples look at our circumstances and in the natural we only see something to fear. Jesus will always respond in the same way in those times. With words that would encourage us to trust HIM and with words that speak the truth. "Be of good cheer! It is I; do not be afraid." His next move was to climb into the boat with them to reinforce His words with His presence!
If you, in this very moment, are in a place of fear at what you see in your circumstances then please Hear His Words to YOU, "Be of good Cheer! It is I, do not be afraid!" Oh, and you might want to take a close look - you'll see His Presence right there with you!
