"There was a certain creditor who had two debtors. One owed five hundred denarii, and the other fifty. And when they had nothing with which to repay, he freely forgave them both. Tell me, therefore, which of them will love him more?"
Simon answered and said, "I suppose the one whom he forgave more." And He said to him, "You have rightly judged." Luke 7:41-43
Jesus spoke these words because the Pharisee, Simon, had invited Him to his home to eat and had then proceeded to juded Him because He was letting a woman who was well known for her sin touch Him and anoint His feet with oil.
After He spoke these words He explained how the woman had shown her love for Him the whole time He had been there while Simon hadn't shown Him even the slightest bit of hospitality. He was illustrating to him his own heart attitude and his judgement of of Him and the woman in question.
I think we all need to remember that we all owed a debt that He has freely paid for us. We all have sinned and fallen short. We have all missed the mark. We need to make sure that we aren't so busy judging what others are doing that we forget that he forgave our debt as well. We need to make sure that we who have invited Him into our lives give Him the place of honor He deserves. A debt forgiven deserves to be appreciated!
He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the Lord require of you But to do justly, to love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? Micah 6:8
