Forget Folly

"Let me hear what God the LORD will speak, for he will speak peace to his people, to his saints; but let them not turn back to folly." Psalm 85:8

I looked at this verse a little differently this time. Despite our freewill and our stubbornness, can God keep us from turning back to folly? Will He keep a hand on us, not allowing us to turn from the right to the left? Or are we balancing on our own?

"Teach me your way, O LORD, that I may walk in your truth; unite my heart to fear your name." Psalm 86:11

It's not God forcing us to be good. He won't put some type of hold on us that will keep us from doing things. However, if we focus on God, ask Him to teach us His ways, walk in His truth, and unite our hearts to fear His name, then we won't turn back to folly. If we are united to Him, totally focused on Him, then we won't turn to the right or the left. At any point, we could lose our focus. That's when we turn to folly.

Be totally focused on God, and you won't see the folly on either side of you. Learn His ways, and you'll say, "Forget folly!" Let your heart be completely united to God, and He won't let you turn to folly. Not because you can't, but because you are so busy learning awesome, new stuff.
