One of the Wise Ones

"Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, 'Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.'" Matthew 2:1-2

These guys saw a star in the sky, and eventually that led them to the Savior. There was no Heavenly chorus, no handwriting in the sky, and no Gabriel. These men witnessed a sign that could have been missed for something normal, mundane even, when it was truly a miracle.

It's almost like a fairy tale. Perhaps that's the problem with the rest of the world. It's no secret that the devil is trying to snuff the wonder of God's love, our trust and hope in Him into mere fairy tales. Sadly, it's been working. Many people look at this story of the three wise men as just that, a story. When they look into the stars, they no longer see the reminder of a miracle. They just see the same stars they have always seen.

The wise men were wise because they knew God well enough to see His sign in the Heavens, and believe. They got to meet the baby Jesus because they stopped to notice God's work. When we get focused, when we get logical and "adult," it is so easy to miss what God is doing around us. Strive to be the person who will see God's signs. Look for God. Be one of the wise ones.

Have a Merry Christmas!!
